Tour Plan
Arrival in TANA
Upon arrival at Ivato Airport, you will be greeted by one of our team. ‘Tana’ – is the capital of Madagascar. The city features a mix of architectural styles, with colonial-era buildings, traditional Merina-style homes, and more modern structures. You’ll experience the bustling daily life of Antananarivo's residents. The energy of the markets, the bustling streets, and the vibrant street scenes offer a taste of urban Madagascar.
TANA – FORT-DAUPHIN – MANDRARE
After breakfast, transfer to Ivato Airport and board your internal flight to Fort Dauphin. You will be greeted at the airport. Depending on your flight schedule, you can possibly make a city tour.
Fort Dauphin, also called "Taolagnaro" is one of the most beautiful destinations in Madagascar. It abounds in many tourist sites to visit its remarkable biodiversity, its magnificent bays, its green mountains, and its remarkable creeks.
It is also a city full of history; Europeans occupied Fort Dauphin for a long time in the 14th century to serve as a trading port.
After a short visit of Fort Dauphin, drive to Mandrare River Camp (4 hours off the beaten track). The camp is located in remote areas, offering a high degree of privacy and a close connection to nature
Upon arrival at the camp settle into your tent : elegant safari-style tents with comfortable beds, fine linens, and en-suite bathrooms with hot water showers. Around 5pm depart for a night walk.
MANDRARE
After breakfast you will head out to the stunning Sacred Gallery Forest to the south of the camp. Depending on the river depth, you will walk or take a boat across the Mandrare River to reach this largely deciduous forest. Inquisitive groups of ring tailed lemurs and the always entertaining Verreaux sifaka are the highlight of this excursion. Return to camp for lunch and a relaxed afternoon by the pool. In late afternoon, head for a walk through the Sacred Spiny Forest filled with the ancestral tombs of the local Antandroy tribe and an extraordinary array of flora and fauna, unique to the spiny forest.
MANDRARE
After a cup of tea or coffee head to the Spiny Forest for an early morning walk. Witness the sunlight break through the octopus trees while looking out for the many endemic birds such as Crested Coua, a variety of Vangas and the Running Coua. Head back to camp for a sumptuous breakfast followed by a visit to the local market (on Thursdays and Saturdays) or the local village to meet the fascinating Antandroy tribe. Later in the afternoon, depart for a sundowner amidst the baobabs.
MANDRARE – FORT-DAUPHIN – ANTANANARIVO
After some days in the bush in the center of nature, it’s time to join the civilisation. Drive back to Fort-Dauphin, and transfer to the airport to fly to Antananarivo.
ANTANANARIVO – ANJAJAVY
After an early breakfast, transfer to the airport fot your scheduled private flight to Anjajavy. Anjajavy is a beautiful coastal region located in northwestern Madagascar, known for its stunning landscapes, wildlife, and pristine beaches.
